The Thrill of an Open Heart: Exploring Brene' Brown's "Atlas of the Heart": Part 1

Are your emotions sometimes a surprise even to yourself? Are they sometimes hard to describe or articulate? Do you fear some of your emotions? Do you yearn for a closer connection with people in your life?
 
In this class, you’ll expand your emotional literacy and learn the freedom in partnering with your emotions so you can lead with your heart in your relationships. Rev. Debora and Rev. Abigail will use Brene’s Brown’s book “Atlas of the Heart” as a template for spiritual and emotional discovery.
 
You’ll leave the class with:
 
  • An understanding of how your emotions show up in your body and why
  • A greater understanding about how families and communities shape your beliefs
  • An examination of your go-to behaviors and how spiritual bypass can be avoided
 
“The Thrill of an Open Heart” is delivered in a four-part series. Each part is drop-in and can be taken independently of the other parts. Register for all four parts here >>
 
Beyond Limits or Foundations is a pre-requisite for this class.
 
Part 1: Chapters 1-3, Atlas of the Heart
  • How to be courageous when things are uncertain or too much
  • How to notice comparison and resentment and how to shift it
  • How to start expressing your expectations
  • How to utilize disappointment as an opportunity for meaningful connection

  • What to do with cognitive dissonance and paradox
  • Discover the positive aspects of sadness and grief
 
Part 3: 6/20-7/18 (No class 7/4) (Chapters 7-10)

  • How to use empathy as a tool of compassion
  • How to move through shame without sacrificing values and authenticity
  • How to experience belonging
  • How to be brave when experiencing heartbreak
 
Part 4: 9/5-10/3 (No class 9/12) (Chapters 11-13)
6-8pm PT/ 7-9pm MT/ 8-10pm CT/ 9-11pm ET
 
  • Discover if you are pushing away your joy
  • Explore how to use anger as a catalyst for change
  • Utilize a tool for transforming contempt into respect and appreciation
  • Delve into the courage to walk alongside others and use story stewardship to support your relationships
