Teshuvah: Spiritual Realignment Training

12/05/2019 06:30 PM - 12/12/2019 08:30 PM PT

Description

Let's be honest, most of us have attitudes and behaviors we detest, yet they pop up in spite of our best intentions. Harmful appetites and desires, abrupt anger, harsh criticisms of ourselves or others, spontaneous cynicism, waves of sadness or pessimism, etc. Once activated and done with us, we swear we will stop them; and a sincere part of us really wants to change! But we don’t.

Moses Maimonides—the ancient Jewish rabbi and therapist—collated specific archetypal ideas and practices that address ways to change our deeply rooted character flaws. He offers us teshuvah, a Hebrew word that means to realign with the Good—a way to turn back to God, to exchange old destructive patterns for right and healthy attitudes and actions. As we approach the winter solstice--a turning back to the light--join us for the psycho-spiritual equivalent of turning the soul back to the Good.

This workshop will outline the basic teshuvah practices, providing a set of tools that Jews have used for centuries to change those detestable patterns that spoil being with our selves, and being in the world with others. This is NOT a simple panacean self help program. But the tools, if taken up and employed, are remarkably effective.
