African Religions: Wisdom of the World Religions Sacred Texts

04/22/2021 06:30 PM - 08:30 PM PT

Description

Vodun and Ifa are two of the most generative spiritualities that have spread from West Africa throughout the Americas, both during and since the North Atlantic Slave Trade. What is it about these two versions of “ancient wisdom” that has given them such an enduring and ubiquitous history and contemporary presence, especially among persons of African descent?

In this course, Dr. Will Coleman will offer an insider’s perspective in response to the above question. Dr. Coleman is not only a theologian and professor of religion. He is a priest of both Haitian vodou and African/American Ifa (as Baba Esuyemi Ifayemi). Also, he grew up within a Christian hoodoo culture. He will share his knowledge on the not so well-known aspects of sacred African/Americas spiritualities: cosmology, psychology, and ritual practices. You will learn more about the philosophy and practices than you might have imagined existing within African-derived spiritualities. Moreover, you will be amazed by the correlations between these versions of “ancient wisdom” and “new thought.” Prepare yourself to be awakened to these extraordinary spiritualities!
